Which is best plastic or paper.....

We often get asked which is better for the environment paper or plastic. Whilst there have been many developments in polythene the general belief is that paper is still better but when you weigh up all the pros and cons it can be a bit of an equal match. We have listed the pro's and cons for both to hopefully help you decide which material is best for you.
PROS of using Polythene:
Compact for easy storage
More durable that paper
Less prone to tearing / resistant to corrosion
Water resistant
Cost effective
Cheaper
Lower carbon footprint
More bags per weight
Can have deg68 additive which makes the bags degrade by the UV in the sunlight
Can be re-used and through the right channels can be recycled
CONS of using Polythene
The regulatory environment globally in in favour of paper products
Most countries have either banned plastic bags or have levied a heavy tax on them
Poses a danger to wildlife
Do not degrade quickly and can pose difficulties during re-cycling
PROS of using Paper
Eco-Friendly
Recyclable and biodegradable
Made from renewable natural resource
Can be repeatedly re-used then shipped to a paper mill and remade into new paper
CONS of using Paper
Can be heavy therefore cost more to transport and a Higher carbon footprint
