Biodegradable bags
- break down in water, carbon dioxide and biomass, it is done using an additive (D2W, EPI) added to the polythene during manufacture. Biodegradation is the breakdown of materials by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi or other biological activity. Biodegradation can occur in different time frames under different circumstances, but is meant to occur naturally without human intervention. These bags are presently the most economical option and can be used to create almost any style of bag or polythene.
Compostable bags
– is a process using natural plant starch materials to create the bags. Compostable bags break down readily through microbial activity to form compost. Additionally, the end product of composting not only returns to its previous state, but also generates and adds beneficial microorganisms to the soil called humus. This organic matter can be used in gardens and on farms to help grow healthier plants in the future. Composting can be done at home in your food waste bin or commercially. At present these bags are still in development but are available as vest carrier bags with a minimum order quantity of 100,000.
