The law in England regarding charging for carrier bags still only applies to companies employing 250+ employees. However, as a business employing less staff you still may want to consider charging to cover the costs of your bags or even to pass on to a charity of your choice. It may give you a larger budget to spend on branded bags or more luxurious bags. The law is continuously being updated so make sure you keep up to date by visiting the government website ( https://www.gov.uk/guidance/carrier-bag-charges-retailers-responsibilities). Rules in the rest of the UK do still apply for all retailers, not just those employing 250+ employees, and do also include paper bags.
